Syria"s struggle is so complicated it makes my head spin. You make sense out of the US's multilayered subterfuge. Stay safe Vanessa, the world needs you whether it likes it or not.

Thank you for this info I just found your substack the other week. It was a few years ago while deployed over there that I started to realize how messy US foreign policy is. I like to stay up to date on that region.

3pm Friday 16/6. Hi Vanessa, I'm guessing you're still fuming. For what it's worth I agree with you. If you were down the road, I'd buy you a pint. I do so miss having a barney down the pub. Enjoy your weekend. ❤️

LOL hi and thank you! Would love a beer. :-) I just wish people could see that Kennedy is not playing to the lobby on Israel, he IS the lobby. Yes, he was good on Covid but so what? Palestine should never be allowed to be politicised, ever.

It’s beyond the pale: targeting troops on civilians; fomenting internecine slaughter; stealing resources in the name of protecting ‘democracy’; the Mafia had more moral standards than this current evil.

The ceremony of innocence is drowned;

The best lack all conviction, while the worst

Are full of passionate intensity. “

How many times have the Americans sold the Kurds out? But they always come back for more.

To be fair, the neocon lobby would lose its shit at any sign of deoccupation from Syria, so maybe this time the Kurds have a point.

"Have a point" - kidnap, murder, ethnic cleansing, resource theft, colluding with ISIS etc etc.. not quite sure what you mean...

I didn't say it was a morally good point, simply that the Americans are not likely to leave any time soon.

If the Kurds actually repaid Syrian hospitality and loyalty by showing some of their own, the US would leave. Their betrayal of the Syria that has offered them refuge and respected their identity is one of the worst of this 12 year war against the Syrian people.

No argument there, although I suspect that if the Kurdish leadership were to reconcile with Syria, the Americans would find another pretext to remain.

They wouldn't be able to!!!

And why do you think so? You think that the United States would not gladly do another Libya or Iraq to Syria?
