Seems to me Blumi is not able to see the obvious.....Wherever China goes, despite their autocratic system ATM (Which:- a) I abhor & b) the west also has, though more unobserved) they have benefited the other various nations & peoples.....with construction & development .(& perhaps also do it on a grand scale)...eg China (or Deng was it) raised hundreds of millions out of extreme poverty & lack of education etc nest ce pas?......now also seems to me for past 70 yrs, apart from v few exceptions, wherever "the West" (Read the War & private profiteers) have gone in so much of the world destruction, repression, suppression of development & just plain evil tyranny has occurred, any takers to argue this? So the west seems all about murder, theft & deception ...via Wars & "interventions”…have followed nest ce pas? The important thing for Blumi to note is the Wester money has by & large gone into wars & destruction...& the Chinese money that he is so suspicious of has gone into construction & development. Who cares if a railroad in Africa is built by the Chinese if the locals benefit? It's als important to note I live in Australia & we have a huge amount of Chinese immigration here & by & large they are the finest folks you will find! Contrast this with so many western businessmen & cooperates all about "screwing someone” in a zero sum game & gloating about it? I think it's very simple TRADE = Friendship=Peace=Global development......& that's the last thing the v, v few Money lender Cabal & monopolists want...they want a monopoly on Capital to use & have power over the slaves!! Let’s hate China/Putin is just another "War ruse" for private power & profit! More manufactured crises…Stupid stuff! How do I know, simple ATM just what what what China does & not what west tells everybody...watch what they do too! Always be prepared..if China becomes "Territorially aggressive" cross that bridge then. Until then "friendship & trade is the way to go"!

Nowhere have you addressed the very blatant Chinese looting of Yemeni oil and supply of drones to the Saudi genocidal coalition while buying Yemeni oil from the Saudi backed regime (which is 100% illegitimate) at below market price thus increasing the misery for the already starved, bombed, disease weakened and poverty stricken 23 million Yemeni people. NOBODY is able to answer this question satisfactorily, you included.

PS Another just possibly uncomfortable thought for CCP is if KSA didn't get Chinese drones they would certainly get them elsewhere.....so?

Seriously!!!??? That is NOT an argument. That is like the US saying well we only arm Al Qaeda in Syria because if we don't someone else will. Please.

If true seems China is also about trading weapons for oil money nowadays?? I wasn't aware of this.

Thankyou VB I am not aware of this or the whole storey.....AFAIK this Yemen situation is utterly terrible.. ...again about murder & theft &&&...I perhaps wrongly assumed KSA is a USA vassal & the main aggressor...& is this not the case? I really don't know...be happy to hear all about this. Thanks

I have repeatedly reported on the China Yemen situation. Everyone ignores Yemen. You can be better informed by following https://english.almasirah.net.ye/post/29702/. I reported on the oil looting at UK Column News, republished here at Substack. I have written extensively on the genocidal war against and siege of 23 million Yemenis including here (bearing in mind China and Russia support UN Resolution 2216) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PzCRR7JVPLM&t=56s and https://21stcenturywire.com/2016/04/03/yemen-un-whitewashing-saudi-coalition-war-crimes-and-international-human-rights-violations/ Point being that China is on the side of US UK Israel UAE and Saudis when it comes to Yemen.

Thank you. Both Isa and I get frustrated by the apparent lack of ability to review the Yemen situation in isolation and accept it is not a good reflection on China policy.

AFAIK the Yemen grief goes back about 8yrs now,.....& who have been the foreign players re this since then? I don't in any way accept or excuse China selling drones for any wrongful "interventions" however one question is when did China first become involved in this evil violence? Who started the bombing there? And to be fair another question is, would China have done it if the Yemenis were at liberty to trade freely with them as other oil exporters do? By the way I am your biggest fan so please don't take my thinking personally. I personally thing Mat is right ..China & Russia want peace & trade. If true we must ask who is preventing this ... I don't think it's China & Russia. My biggest concern ATM is the "powers at be" might want two totalitarian systems ...one East & one West! AND they well might have agreed on this.

Here's more information on China from a Canadian who has lived in China recently and who's ancestors are from China. Tings Chak did significant research on China's 10 year successful effort to eliminate extreme poverty in China.

Lifting over 800 million people out of poverty over the 10 years. That's over twice the population of the USA.

Ting's report - Serve the People: The Eradication of Extreme Poverty in China - July 23, 2021

https://thetricontinental.org/studies-1-socialist-construction/

Here is a link to a 58 minute show with Ting describing her report and recent visits to modern day China.

How China Ended Extreme Poverty - The World Can Too - 58 minute show for local public TV stations to broadcast -

Anyone interested in hearing about China who has been there recently can contact her for an interview or further information and other contacts that actually knows China.

Enjoy the days, and the fine work you are doing - very useful. -- Syria, recent Ukraine report ...

That was terrific and I leapt upon it. Thank you.

I’ve always found (who cares?) Matthew Ehret alarmingly glib and throwaway in painting China as the antidote to Western perfidy: it isn’t. Blumi is calm and correct. Chinese economic expansion is rapacious, cold and utterly destructive and Ehret ignores basic Chinese traits and practice.

I would agree though with Matthew regards Bio-Security: China’s frightening zero COVID response on the mainland reflects a regime addressing a foreign threat.

(In so writing though it occurred to me at the time that the release did shut down HK protests brilliantly before they became a problem that would have dwarfed Tiananmen Square in terms of the CCP, how it exercises power and how it would have been seen to do so).

Hats off to you and UKC for this fascinating discussion.

I've read, though I can't find it now, high ranking Chinese officials declaring that this covid thing is an actual biological attack, also mentioned were bird and swine flu. This may account for their extreme measures, at least partly.

A balanced debate on China's influence globally - constructive or destructive?

DESTRUCTIVE.

Expand full comment

Absolutely. Where I come from we are mostly still in thrall to a cartoon perception of the Chinese; it’s very frustrating.

You must be joking me! How low-IQ can some of your people be! They'd better watch what they like or wish for!

Oh I know! We are very trusting as a population and distracted by suburban comforts. It’s hard to watch all these years.

Most people, by nature, are trusting types - especially where they live in peace and plenty.

Looking at your name, your people are a docile and peaceful lot. They deserve better!

I am still wonder why your people are so huge. Their wrists are as large as my ankles. Whenever I asked a few, they always said because of "tarot". Bulla bulla :)!

Islanders and Māori tend to have big bones and body mass; Islanders particularly due to brilliant diet and seafaring. In NZ this causes problems often because of poor diet though.

Matt spent a lot of time not answering your question, Vanessa. BTW, I like Matt, he does groundbreaking and fantastic work for which I owe him thanks, but too often the issues brought up by Isa are left with unsatisfying answers.

I strongly support your condemnation of China's stance on Yemen, Vanessa. We can only hope that this changes, soon. It is a horribly destructive policy and does the CPC no credit whatsoever.

However, that criticism accepted, I personally was disappointed with the UKC discussion and thought that bar his mention of Yemen, everything else Isa Blumi said was extremely negative and largely superficial and outdated. He is by no means an expert on China - except within the Middle East - and sadly his general stance only what one would expect from someone with his academic upbringing and associations.
