Thank you Vanessa. Like you, I came out of this discussion with many questions; maybe more questions than I had going into the discussion!

Seems to me Blumi is not able to see the obvious.....Wherever China goes, despite their autocratic system ATM (Which:- a) I abhor & b) the west also has, though more unobserved) they have benefited the other various nations & peoples.....with construction & development .(& perhaps also do it on a grand scale)...eg China (or Deng was it) raised hundreds of millions out of extreme poverty & lack of education etc nest ce pas?......now also seems to me for past 70 yrs, apart from v few exceptions, wherever "the West" (Read the War & private profiteers) have gone in so much of the world destruction, repression, suppression of development & just plain evil tyranny has occurred, any takers to argue this? So the west seems all about murder, theft & deception ...via Wars & "interventions”…have followed nest ce pas? The important thing for Blumi to note is the Wester money has by & large gone into wars & destruction...& the Chinese money that he is so suspicious of has gone into construction & development. Who cares if a railroad in Africa is built by the Chinese if the locals benefit? It's als important to note I live in Australia & we have a huge amount of Chinese immigration here & by & large they are the finest folks you will find! Contrast this with so many western businessmen & cooperates all about "screwing someone” in a zero sum game & gloating about it? I think it's very simple TRADE = Friendship=Peace=Global development......& that's the last thing the v, v few Money lender Cabal & monopolists want...they want a monopoly on Capital to use & have power over the slaves!! Let’s hate China/Putin is just another "War ruse" for private power & profit! More manufactured crises…Stupid stuff! How do I know, simple ATM just what what what China does & not what west tells everybody...watch what they do too! Always be prepared..if China becomes "Territorially aggressive" cross that bridge then. Until then "friendship & trade is the way to go"!

Here's more information on China from a Canadian who has lived in China recently and who's ancestors are from China. Tings Chak did significant research on China's 10 year successful effort to eliminate extreme poverty in China.

Lifting over 800 million people out of poverty over the 10 years. That's over twice the population of the USA.

Ting's report - Serve the People: The Eradication of Extreme Poverty in China - July 23, 2021

Here is a link to a 58 minute show with Ting describing her report and recent visits to modern day China.

Anyone interested in hearing about China who has been there recently can contact her for an interview or further information and other contacts that actually knows China.

Enjoy the days, and the fine work you are doing - very useful. -- Syria, recent Ukraine report ...

That was terrific and I leapt upon it. Thank you.

I’ve always found (who cares?) Matthew Ehret alarmingly glib and throwaway in painting China as the antidote to Western perfidy: it isn’t. Blumi is calm and correct. Chinese economic expansion is rapacious, cold and utterly destructive and Ehret ignores basic Chinese traits and practice.

I would agree though with Matthew regards Bio-Security: China’s frightening zero COVID response on the mainland reflects a regime addressing a foreign threat.

(In so writing though it occurred to me at the time that the release did shut down HK protests brilliantly before they became a problem that would have dwarfed Tiananmen Square in terms of the CCP, how it exercises power and how it would have been seen to do so).

Hats off to you and UKC for this fascinating discussion.

A balanced debate on China's influence globally - constructive or destructive?

DESTRUCTIVE.

Matt spent a lot of time not answering your question, Vanessa. BTW, I like Matt, he does groundbreaking and fantastic work for which I owe him thanks, but too often the issues brought up by Isa are left with unsatisfying answers.

I strongly support your condemnation of China's stance on Yemen, Vanessa. We can only hope that this changes, soon. It is a horribly destructive policy and does the CPC no credit whatsoever.

However, that criticism accepted, I personally was disappointed with the UKC discussion and thought that bar his mention of Yemen, everything else Isa Blumi said was extremely negative and largely superficial and outdated. He is by no means an expert on China - except within the Middle East - and sadly his general stance only what one would expect from someone with his academic upbringing and associations.
